Frequently Asked Questions
What is RTMPT Recording and Downloading?
Real Time Messaging Protocol (RTMPT) is a HTTP wrapper around the RTMP protocol and Flash media players will default to it if the standard RTMP port is blocked. This can occur if you are behind a firewall.
Hotspot Sheild AnchorFree can be used to obtain access to US restricted sites from outside of the US, Hulu for example. When using Hostspot Sheild Hulu will stream in RTMPT (instead of RTMP) and Jaksta will be able to download and or record it.
Jaksta will detect videos and music streamed over RTMPT and try to create another connection to download it. If Jaksta can download the stream then there is no need to continue playing the stream in your browser.
Several websites however use technology that secures the stream and Jaksta can not download it. In these cases Jaksta will detect the stream is secured and begin to record it as it plays in your browser. See SWF Verification for further details. Jaksta contains settings (See Tools > Settings) where you can specify that all RTMP streams should be recorded instead of downloaded. This can be useful if you want to watch a video whilst you record it.
Jaksta displays whether it is downloading or recording RTMPT next to the streams progress.
