YouTube Playlist

Asked by Dash @ 09 Jul 2017 09:07 / Views: 25

Hi.  I'm a new customer and wanted to be able to download a full playlist from YouTube and have it converted to audio.

I chose AAC audio and have pasted the playlist in the top right field and pressed "Get".  However, it seems to only grab the first item in the playlist and then says complete.  I was hoping it would go through each item in the playlist.

Any ideas?

Hi Dash,

Using the URL bar will only ever download the one video that the link URL applies to. So with this playlist, every time a new video starts it will have a different URL.

Unfortunately the URL bar has not been built for any kind of continuation, and so is not suitable for getting entire playlists. Even if it could, doing it that way to get an entire playlist of that length and size would probably take a good long while because it is a bit slower than the normal stream capture downloading and the videos you are wanting to download are quite long.

I would recommend using the normal stream capture method for this. If you start the first video then the capturing will begin automatically, and then you can either walk away and let the playlist run through normally and capture each file as it comes on, or you can click on the next video almost immediately after the current one starts. The second approach would be the fastest, as you don't have to let a video play through or even keep it playing in order to capture it - it only needs to be started. Downloads can also be done simultaneously, so you could just click through all the items and add them to the download queue and then leave it to finish.

Hi Dash - I am just posting your response here in the thread so we can keep it all tidy.

Hi Liam.  Thank you for your reply.  Okay, that kinda sucks because there are over 700 items in the playlist.  I guess I’ll try it out and if it doesn’t work easily enough, I’ll ask for a return.  I had thought based on the description that it could load a playlist.  Perhaps that was the Windows version I was reading?

Anyway, I’d like to try importing the files from Jaksta to iTunes but Jaksta is putting the resolution of “360p” to the end of each file and I don’t want to have it that way within iTunes.  So far, I’ve renamed them prior to me manually importing them into iTunes.  Is there a way to stop Jaksta from appending the resolution to the files?

Hi again Dash,

Perhaps it was the Windows version you were looking at. Jaksta Music recorder has the option to go through a playlist and record the actual audio output, but it still requires the file to play through in its entirety, so 700 videos may take a long, long time.

Unfortunately the file naming is based on data embedded within the YouTube video, and there is no way to customise settings in Jaksta to configure the output. Renaming them manually might be the only option.

Are you running latest version - 2.0.1? We released an update in the last few weeks and it did have a YouTube file naming fix built into it. If you haven't updated to that version already then I would highly recommend it, as it may have the solution you are looking for.

I bought this program to do just this, rip entire channels. And it was able to back when I bought it. And you're telling me now it's not a feature? Why is this no longer a feature? It used to pick every file from the playlist URL and download all of them. Need help to get this feature sorted again.

I use the Windows version btw, and it will download the entire thing when I just browse the link(don't have to record every second), so it can just run through or press next for every URL. But still this was a lot easier before, is there a link to download old versions somewhere?

Hi Stefan,

You have put your post in the Mac Support Forum. The Mac and Windows versions of the Jaksta apps are VERY different in how they are developed, how they work and the problems that they have.

It would be best if you could post your issue in the Windows Technical Support Forums, as the problem you are experiencing and the solution for it will be unrelated to any to do with the Mac version.
